Saturday - It Was a Good First Day

It's a 11 o'clock as we write this on the West Coast at the end of a long day. A long day, but it was also a very good first day. While we did have one of our two buses delayed at the border for just under a half hour as every bag was pulled from the bag and a lucky few people's bag searched, we arrived safely at our destination with all of our bags. So, all in all, it was a good border crossing. It's all how you choose to look at things. And this week, of choosing wisely and choosing to see things differently.

Hey, you can't complain about anything with 75-degree weather greeting us in Mexico.

Once at the City, we all assembled to meet the American Director, Tom Begin, and to be oriented to the rules and culture of the place we've come.  We reviewed the week's schedule.  Readied our rooms.  Ate dinner with the Mexican teens.  Played a quick game of soccer.  Had Mexican paleta (ice cream on a stick) and there's nothing finer.

Then capped the evening with a game bringing together Mexican and American teens.  And that it did.  Nothing brings people together like a good game of Musical Chairs of Death. It was fun to see the barriers of language erased by laughter, smiles and the joy of making new friends.

We ended the day with a prayer. Day one is done. Had a lot of fun. Made some new friends. Saw Christ in unexpected places. We may have gotten one red light at the border.  But the day itself was a green light.  (Be sure and ask your teens about the significance of a red or green light at the border.  Many of you already know.)

Good night.  Can't wait for tomorrow.
